Three Duane Morris attorneys based in the firm's Baltimore office have been recognized by Best Lawyers. George J. Nemphos, the Chair of the firmwide Corporate Practice Group, has been selected as a "Lawyer of the Year" in the area of leveraged buyouts and private equity law in Baltimore for 2014. In addition, partners Jay Cohen and Robert Hopkins were cited in the Best Lawyers listings in the areas of venture capital law and admiralty and maritime law, respectively.
Only one lawyer in each practice area and city is awarded the Lawyer of the Year designation by Best Lawyers. Honorees are selected based on high marks received during the extensive peer-review assessments conducted by Best Lawyers each year.
In addition to being chair of Duane Morris' Corporate Practice Group, Nemphos is the managing partner of the firm's Baltimore office. He is also a member of the firm's national governing Partners Board. Nemphos practices in the areas of corporate and securities law. He has extensive experience in representing both private and public companies, venture capitalists, angel investors and private equity funds. He frequently represents clients in mergers and acquisitions transactions, as well as securities law, compliance and general corporate matters. Nemphos' clients have included emerging businesses; high-tech and telecommunications companies; private equity and venture capital funds; manufacturing companies; and companies in the capital markets, life sciences and homeland security industries.

Nemphos is a 1994 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he was a member of the Heuisler Honor Society and a member of the Tax Moot Court team. Nemphos also holds an LL.M. in Taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center and is a graduate of Boston University.
Cohen has more than 25 years' experience representing clients with their general corporate, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and private equity requirements, both domestically and internationally. He regularly counsels start-up companies seeking to attract venture capital funding. Cohen has represented companies in the retail and fashion industries. He also regularly represents companies in connection with their joint ventures, license/technology transfers, and financings. In addition, Cohen has represented businesses and private equity funds in connection with their activities in the Middle East/North Africa and Persian Gulf.
