Center for Innovative Technology Invests in Arlington-Based LiveSafe

The Herndon-based Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) said on Monday it has invested an unspecified amount in Arlington-based LiveSafe, the developer of a mobile safety app designed to establish two-way communication between users and authorities. Jenny Abramson, the president and CEO of LiveSafe, said the proceeds "will help with development and expansion of our product, in addition to funding additional market roll-outs." The company's app, available for iPhone and Android devices, links to an online dashboard for police to receive incoming tips and to monitor users in distress by GPS. The app is currently being used at several colleges, universities and high schools, but also has recently gained traction within the military market. CIT made the investment through its GAP Funds, a family of seed- and early-stage investment funds targeting Virginia-based technology, life science and clean tech companies.
