Arlington-Based In-Q-Tel Increases Investment in Platfora

In-Q-Tel, the Arlington-based venture fund backed by the CIA, has increased its investment in Platfora, a Silicon Valley developer of big data analytics software designed to help companies make critical decisions. The investment was part of the company's new $38 million funding round, led by Tenaya Capital. The funds will be used to bolster its staff, technology and field organizations. Platfora's platform is designed to help non-technical users interactively manipulate data to make fact-based decisions. "Enterprises are awash in data but are struggling to gain useful insights," said CEO Ben Werther. "They cannot access or interpret these new large and heterogeneous big data sets fast enough." The company's clients include Citi, Comcast, DirecTV, Disney,, Opower, and The Washington Post.
