McLean-Based Raises $7.5 Million in New Venture Capital

03/20/2014, a McLean-based developer of secure digital ID cards designed to let users prove their identity online, has raised $7.5 million in new venture capital and another $2.5 million venture debt, The Wall Street Journal reported. The company was formerly called TroopIDUSAA led the round, which also included participation from Blu Venture Investorsand several angel investors. The company's service let's retailers offer discounts to groups such as military members or students by verifying their affiliations. "Because we have access to authoritative databases on the back end, we can verify the identity and status of military personnel, veterans, students, teachers and first responders," the company said. Clients include, Carhartt, Under Armour and Sears. The company had been known as TroopID until mid-2013, when it changed its name and expanded into areas outside the military.
