CIT Project to Help Improve Broadband on Native American Lands

Following a feasibility study last year highlighting the gaps in broadband availability on Native American tribal lands, the Herndon-based Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) said it has launched a project aimed at helping Virginia tribes improve broadband coverage. CIT and its partners -- Native American Capital, the Virginia Geographic Information Network and the Virginia Tech Center for Geospatial Information Technology -- will work with tribes and broadband providers to collect broadband data, with the ultimate goal of filling the gaps in coverage. The project, expected to be completed by the end of 2014, is part a grant awarded by the National Telecommunications and Information Agency (NTIA) in 2010.
