Mid-Atlantic Venture Association Announces Deputy Executive Director

12/06/2011
The Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA) announced today the appointment of Kimberly Weir as Deputy Executive Director.

The creation of the new Deputy Executive Director role reflects MAVA's renewed commitment to expand and deepen the value that the organization provides to its investor members, corporate partners, and the entrepreneurial community in an ever-changing market environment. Looking to 2012, MAVA’s Board of Directors and executive leaders have set an ambitious agenda for providing enhanced and effective programming, support and resources that effectively aligns our region's diverse capital community with the latest trends in technology innovation and the entrepreneurial talent that harnesses these resources to create and grow successful companies across a variety tech-based sectors.

Ms. Weir joins the senior leadership team of MAVA in a newly created position which will significantly expand the strategic outreach and program development of the organization. In this new role, Ms. Weir will be responsible for developing new strategic partnerships, engaging with targeted corporate partners and designing high-impact programs to serve MAVA members and company-builders.

Prior to joining MAVA, Ms. Weir successfully launched and managed a business development services firm, Starting Gate Global where she worked closely with MAVA in early 2011. Prior to launching her own firm, Ms. Weir spent 7 years developing and implementing new programs and marketing initiatives for the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, International Division, including her creation and leadership of the nationally recognized, innovative export-promotion VALET (Virginia Leaders in Export Trade).   Throughout her professional career, she has built a strong reputation in the international business, economic development, professional services and technology communities of the Greater Washington region. Ms. Weir is highly respected for her ability to translate strategic concepts into practical and effective programs and to effectively communicate new initiatives to stakeholders and new audiences.

"Kim brings infectious enthusiasm and an unrivaled level of energy to our organization" said Julia Spicer, MAVA's executive director. "MAVA has benefited from Kim's contribution to our work in key initiatives such as Capital Connection and the launch of TechBuzz, and we are delighted to bring her onboard as our Deputy Executive Director. In this new role, Kim's strengths will help MAVA launch and implement a host of timely initiatives that will deliver meaningful outcomes for all the constituents within our community.”

Ms. Weir received her M.B.A. from the Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary in 2005 after completing her Bachelor of Arts, with distinction, from the University of Virginia in 1991.
