Tatum Hires Sonya Stone as Associate Managing Partner, Mid-Atlantic Market


Along with New Partners - Bruce Jolly, Ross Fuller, David Asai and Sam Ulan
Firm continues to strengthen its CFO practice with talent acquisition

Tatum, a national professional services firm, recently announced that it has added Sonya Stone as Associate Managing Partner along with 4 new Partners to the Mid-Atlantic market. Sonya Stone re-joins Tatum as Associate Managing Partner working with Bob Hostetler. Bruce Jolly re-joins Tatum as a CFO Partner in Tatum's Central Virginia market. Sam Ulan rejoins Tatum along with Ross Fuller and David Asai as CFO Partners in the Mid-Atlantic market.

Sonya Stone - During her twenty-five year career, Stone has served in both senior leadership and client-facing capacities as a Partner, Chief Financial Officer and Director for professional and financial services companies and nonprofit organizations.  She possesses broad business and financial management experience with special competence in organizations undergoing stress or change, including rapid-growth, turnarounds, leadership transitions, start-ups, winddowns, and working capital stabilization scenarios.  She also has extensive expertise in capital markets, governmental entities, restructuring, investments and portfolio management.

Bruce Jolly - Bruce has served as the Vice President, Finance of Riverton Investment Corporation, the parent company of two cement manufacturing firms.  Bruce served as Chief Financial Officer of Kiel Bros. Oil Company, a family owned $250 million petroleum distribution company operating in three Midwestern states. Bruce also served as the CFO of Cosco, Inc., a highly successful leveraged buyout, and was the Secretary and Treasurer of Hon Industries, a well-known office furniture manufacturer. As a Tatum Partner, Jolly's engagements have included a financial consulting assignment with Greenbrier Minerals, LLC, a West Virginia coal mining firm, where he played a significant part in obtaining $146 million in debt financing.   He also served as the interim financial officer at the Waynesboro, Virginia manufacturing facility of Neuman Aluminum.  Other roles have included serving as the interim CFO of the Robertson Marketing Group in Salem, Virginia, and project assignments in the biotechnology, healthcare, real estate development, and advertising industries.

Ross Fuller - Ross has served as the Chief Financial Officer of several distressed middle market companies, financial and operational advisor to healthy, distressed and emerging privately owned companies, mergers and acquisitions consultant on over 50 transactions both nationally and internationally, and public accountant. During his CFO career, Ross has achieved an aggregate triple digit percentage improvement in profitability at a dozen companies including restoring profitability as Interim CFO of a flooring products company and increasing profitability margins by 1,000 basis points without a loss in revenue as Interim CFO of an engineered yarn company. Ross has worked with companies in a wide variety of industries including manufacturing, information technology, business and consumer products and automotive. Ross specializes in financial leadership, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, turnaround situations, driving results through accountability to key metrics and cash flow management.

David Asai -   David has experience in the online publishing and education fields serving as CFO of Voyager Learning Company (formerly known as ProQuest). He also has served as both Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer at several airlines including Independence Air, Reno Air, and Spirit Airlines. David has over 25 years of experience directing all facets of finance and accounting management for private and public SEC registered companies.  He has hands on experience in restructuring companies both in and outside of bankruptcy. He is highly skilled in collaborating with all members of the organization to achieve business and financial objectives.

Sam Ulan - Sam has directed and implemented global and domestic tax strategies, activities and initiatives of two publicly traded corporations as Vice President of Tax of United Defense, Inc. and PHH, Inc., reporting directly to the CFO.  Initiatives included minimizing the overall effective tax rate, repatriation of foreign earnings, use of foreign sales corporations, pricing of intercompany transactions, and maximizing LIFO benefits available for manufacturers.  As Vice President and Tax Counsel of Statoil Energy, Inc. a US subsidiary of a Norwegian public oil and gas exploration company, he managed the flow of funds to and from Norway to minimize borrowing and tax costs and restructured the company's 30 subsidiaries to minimize state and local taxes. He has also served as Vice President and Director of Corporate tax of MNC Financial, a $17 billion public bank holding company, where he implemented FAS 109.  He served as a KPMG Partner meeting the tax needs of retail, distribution and financial and professional services clients. Ulan specializes in financial leadership, mergers and acquisitions, negotiating with IRS and state tax auditors and working with outside advisors and lenders.
