McLean, VA – May 13, 2010 Mid-Atlantic Venture Association today announced that Howard Schmidt, White House Cybersecurity Coordinator, National Security Council, will deliver a keynote address at its annual technology innovation and investment conference, Capital Connection ’10 on May 19 at the Hilton Baltimore Hotel, Baltimore, MD.


At the White House, he is responsible for coordinating interagency cybersecurity policy development and implementation and is responsible for coordinating engagement with federal, state, local, international, and private sector cybersecurity partners.


Schmidt, one of the world’s leading authorities on cybersecurity, has a long distinguished career in defense, law enforcement, and corporate security spanning more than 40 years. In the private sector, he has served in positions as chief security officer for Microsoft Corporation and eBay Inc. His public service includes distinguished tenures as vice chair of the President’s Critical Infrastructure Protection Board, and director of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations Computer Forensics Lab and Computer Crime and Information Warfare Division. He also served with the FBI and is recognized as one of the pioneers in the field of computer forensics and computer evidence collection.


Schmidt’s address will be followed immediately by a panel discussion, “Cybersecurity: Identifying the Opportunities,” moderated by Lt. General (Ret) USAF Kenneth A. Minihan, former director of the National Security Agency, and managing director, Paladin Capital Group. Joining Minihan will be Debora Plunkett, Information Assurance Director, National Security Agency; Gary Gagnon, Vice President and Corporate Director of Cyber Security, The MITRE Corporation; Kristin Lovejoy, Vice President, IBM Security Solutions, and James Mobley, President and CEO, Neohapsis, Inc.


Cybersecurity is one of several focus areas at Capital Connection ‘10, May 19-20, which brings together both industry thought leaders as speakers and the best of later stage growth and early stage companies in additional sectors such as software/IT, education innovation, digital media, alternative energy, and health services/IT.
