VividCortex Raises $2 Million from CIT and Others

VividCortex Inc. has closed a $2 million round of financing, most of it from investors in Charlottesville, termed by its co-founder as “the East Coast’s best-kept sleeper tech hub secret.”

In a blog post on its website, co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer Kyle Redinger said the round attracted investment from Jaffray Woodriff, co-founder of the QIM fund; Battery Ventures; CIT and existing angels. The startup, which bids to build better software tools to manage data on servers and databases, has so far raised $2.7 million.

“We raised this round of funding because we’re addressing a very large-scale engineering problem. This is not a quick or cheap product to build. We need to hire and invest significantly in engineering and infrastructure,” Redinger said in the blog. “The round gives us the funding to deliver more features and scale to meet customer demand.”

Redinger previously worked at Microsoft. He also has started, managed, grown, and sold businesses across a wide range of verticals including consulting, media, fitness, and event management.

VividCortex was co-founded by Redinger and CEO Baron Schwartz, an expert on MySQL and previously the head of sales at the consulting firm Percona.

“Our products help our customers measure, analyze and understand system behavior at a very deep level. There are good tools in the application and network layers, but usable tools for servers and databases are practically nonexistent. We’re fixing that, focusing first on tools for MySQL,” Redinger said.
