UMUC Takes Third in National MITRE Corp.'s 2012 Capture the Flag (CTF) Cyber Challenge Competition

A team of undergraduate cybersecurity students from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) placed third out of 53 teams at Mitre Corp.'s recent 2012 Capture the Flag (CTF) Cyber Challenge. The competition, held last month, was open to undergraduate and high school students from across the country, who were tasked with solving progressively difficult cyber-related challenges. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo took top honors, with the University of South Florida taking second. Carnegie Mellon and the Polytechnic Institute of New York University rounded out the top five. "It speaks both to the quality of the program and to the caliber of our students, many of whom already hold positions of responsibility defending our nation's vital and growing cyber infrastructure," said Javier Miyares, the acting president of UMUC. Team members included John Arneson, Benjamin Heise, Armando Quintananieves and Justin Wray.
