Reston-Based Goodzer Raises $650,000 in New Funding – Spring TechBUZZ presenter

Back in October 2010, we wrote about a startup called Goodzer Inc., which at that point was pretty much just two co-founders, some seed funding and a prototype.
The Reston company scraped the websites of retailers to provide a map-based search tool for merchandise – starting with about 7 million products across stores in Manhattan.
Goodzer has since gone national – now compiling some 2 billion items across half a million shops, according to CEO Dmitry Pakhomkin. And it's raised another $650,000, he said, bringing its fundraising total to $750,000. Those investors include current and former Cree Inc.   executives Neal Hunter, John Palmour and Cengiz Balkas.
The startup achieved this sort of scale through automation, using algorithms to scrape and aggregate product data from bricks-and-mortar stores, then overlaying that information over Google Maps. Goodzer should be an interesting story to watch this year. After all, finding better ways to display retail inventory for consumers is big business — just look at eBay Inc.   's $75 million acquisition of San Jose, Calif.-based Inc., announced in December 2010.
