Hungry, an Arlington, VA-based foodtech startup, raised $1.5m in seed funding.

Backers included private investors including Brent Thompson, a former Expedia, Inc. executive.

The company, which has raised $4.5m since its founding in late 2016, intends to use the funds for new market expansion, talent acquisition, and further development of its proprietary ordering and delivery platform.

Led by Eman Pahlavani, Founder, Hungry is an online marketplace that connects independent chefs with the office catering market. It provides culinary stars with a platform to sell their signature menus directly to corporate customers, who can place catering orders via web or phone, which are then delivered by the company. Rather than ordering only from restaurants or traditional caterers, offices can now order directly from a vast network of talented independent chefs, including former White House chefs, Chopped Champions, and even celebrity chefs.
Launched its marketplace in January 2017 in the Washington, D.C. market, the company grew to more than $1 million in sales by the end of that year. The
More than 300 companies in the D.C. area including Amazon, E-Trade, Microsoft, WeWork, and many more, have already used Hungry and its network of chefs.
