Dan Yates is Senior Vice President of Strategy, Delivery, and Marketing, for Oracle Utilities, where he is responsible for Oracle’s cloud and software development strategy for the utility industry. Prior to joining Oracle Dan was CEO of Opower, a company he founded in 2007, took public in 2014, and sold to Oracle in 2016 for over $530 million. Under his leadership Opower was one of the fastest growing enterprise SaaS companies in the world. The company was cited as an example of innovation and success by President Barack Obama and Prime Minister David Cameron, and was named to Fortune’s “Change the World” list of companies that have made a sizeable impact on global challenges. Dan has been recognized as one of the leading SaaS CEOs through honors such as Washington Business Journal’s Power 100, Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year®, Fortune’s “40 under 40,” and Washingtonian’s “Tech Titans.” Dan and his co-founder at Opower, Alex Laskey, were named to the inaugural edition of the Business Insider 100: The Creators list of business visionaries creating value for the world. Prior to Opower, he was founder and CEO of Edusoft, an educational software company that provided assessment platforms to US public school districts. He sold the 150-person, $20M company to publisher Houghton Mifflin in 2004. Dan received his BA in Computer Science, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Harvard.
